THE MEMORY SERIES I: by Jerry Lee Rice Born Oct 13, 1962 in Crawford, Mississipi
It was October 22, 1989 -- the San Francisco 49ers vs. the New England Patriots. San Francisco had been devastated by an earthquake on October 17 and the 49ers were forced out of Candlestick Park and into Stanford Stadium. The game was tied 17-17 in the third quarter. On 3rd and 6, Jerry Rice scored a touchdown which led to a 37-20 victory over the Patriots. This moment in time, with Jerry's arms up in the end zone, gave San Francisco something to cheer about in the wake of one of their biggest natural disasters.
"I caught the ball. My first thought was to get up field. The most important thing for me is to finish the play. So I'm thinking six the majority of the time. Creativity, break tackles, and score."
